Sherlock Holmes 3 stories

The Resident Patient Blog

I recently read The Resident Patient by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the Book; “Sherlock Holmes The Complete Novels and Stories”.  While I was reading this I was on the coach and it took me a few days to finish, but the experience was worth it. In this story Sherlock and Dr. Watson interact with quite a few character the ones he talks to the most including, Dr. Trevelyan and Mr. Blessington. Some side characters including Mr. Lanner, Biddle, Hayward and Moffat. In this story Sherlock was hired for a series of peculiar events when Mr. Blessington gets scared because he saw big footsteps in his room, in the house that he shares with Dr. Trevelyan. In the end Blessington gets murdered but they find out who the killers were and find out Blessington is also called Sutton and was in a gang.

During the last few pages of the story Arthur Conan Doyle describes how Mr. Blessington is running from his past and it make him feel nervous about getting caught by his old gang. By studying the room that Mr. Blessington was in when he was murdered, Sherlock Holmes discovers that Mr. Blessington was is a gang of criminals that once robbed a bank. Within those same pages Dr. Watson explains how the gang of criminals that Mr. Blessington was afraid of robbed a bank coming out with seven thousand pounds. His gang was called the Worthington Bank Gang which consisted of Biddle, Hayworth, Moffat, Sutton and Cartwright. After the detectives Sherlock and Mr. Lanner talk about the fifth member of the gang, Cartwright, Mr. Lanner tells us that the caretaker at the bank was murdered which was followed up by an explanation of how the seven thousand pounds was stolen.

Mr. Blessington reminds me of Dick Grayson. Dick Grayson is the first Robin from the Batman trilogy in DC Comics. He does not like to work for Batman and later breaks off from Batman and forms as his own superhero persona, Night-wing. In Dick’s story he is always trying to run from Batman when the superhero lifestyle comes back to him and he becomes Night-wing; which is another superhero figure instead of Robin, but in Arthur Conon Doyle’s story Mr. Blessington character gets murdered. This was a great story and I look forward to blogging another Sherlock Holmes epic adventure.

The Yellow Face

I recently read The Yellow Face by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the Book; “Sherlock Holmes the Complete Novels and Stories”. In this story there were many characters but the ones important to the story are, Effie and Mr. Grant Monro. Some side characters including John Hebron, the maid for the cottage and the maid for Mr. Monro’s house. In this story Sherlock was hired for a series of peculiar events which when the wife (Ellie) of Mr. Monro keeps on sneaking out on strange conditions when he nears to the cottage that his wife sneaks in, he notices a strange looking face watching him so after a while Mr. Monro come to Sherlock Holmes.

During the last few pages of the story Arthur Conan Doyle describes how Mr. Moro is trying to get into the cottage that his wife has been going in. By charging into the house, they find out that the face that was staring at him was a black girl with a yellow mask. The event that leads to this follow, Mr. Monro sends for Sherlock and Sherlock immediately comes to his dwelling by train, they plan on what they are going to do, they planned on barging into the cottage. After they open the door his wife and the cottage maid stand there trying to hold them back but fail. After this incident they figure out who the strange face is and after a moment of shock Ellie explains That when her husband died her daughter also got sick and she had to leave America and her daughter behind but did bring her back when she was no longer ill.

I think the wife hid her child for a good reason. At the time black people were definitely no treated equal. I think that if news broke out that the was a negro in the neiborhood people wouldn’t like it. Ellie did only guess that Mr. Monro wouldn’t like the negro child when really, he just wanted truth from Ellie. I suppose that Ellie could’ve posed the subject of having a black kid with Mr. Monro to get the reaction. My way of approaching Mr. Monro with this secret would be to tell him about my old husband and his race. Then I would pose the subject of a negro child and slowly tell him about my past and the child that I left behind and when I get approval, I will bring her here. I think both of these stories are really cool and both kept me reading for what's next.

The Greek Interpreter

I recently read The Greek Interpreter by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the Book; “Sherlock Holmes the Complete Novels and Stories”. In this story Sherlock and Dr. Watson interact with quite a few character the ones that are most involved are, Mycroft and The Greek Interpreter. Some side characters including, Latimer, Kemp Paul, Sophy. In this story Sherlock was hired for a series of peculiar events when Mr. Meles, (the Greek interpreter) was kidnapped by a gang to interpret a person that only know Greek and the kidnapper only know English but this case was meant originally for Mycroft which is Sherlocks brother. Sherlock thinks that Mycroft is better at detecting that he is but it to lazy and never puts it to good use he would tell Sherlock the answer to the case and no try to prove correct.

When the gang kidnaps him, they make him make conversation he puts his own twist to what they are asking him to say to the Greek prisoner. Like they would ask about signing papers and he would instead ask who are you or how long have been here. By studying the house that Mr. Meles was in when he was kidnapped, Sherlock Holmes discovers that Paul was dead and the gang was gone. They still had hope to rescue Sophy. The way that Sophy comes into the story is when she opens the house doors and interrupts the interpretation. Paul and Sophy have a short reunion but it was short lived and were again separated. Shortly after Mr. Meles blacks out and gets dropped off at a random place but immediately runs to Mycroft. In the end Latimer and Kemp die and Sherlock suspects that it was Sophie's revenge.

If I were in Mr. Meles shoes, I would be very scared and wouldn't know what to do. Meles had no choice but to comply and that is what he did. I am very impressed that he found a way to get more information out of the Paul. I like how Sophy got her revenge on the gang members. If I had the ability that Mycroft had at detective skills, I would definitely use them. I wouldn’t sit around and ask Sherlock to do them. I really think there should be a book about Mycroft and maybe. Maybe someday I can make that book but instead I will stick to reading these really cool Sherlock Holmes stories. I think out of all of the ones that I blogged “The Yellow Face” was the best.
